Started in 1987, Emergency Medical Training Associates is a cohesive group of EMS field providers. Our mission, is to provide comprehensive, yet common-sense safety training to business, industry and the general public. We believe that by learning these valuable skills from paramedics, firefighters, EMT’s and other safety personnel, you will not only enjoy your time, but will gain the confidence to help save lives.
EMTA is privately owned by Dayna Dayton and Brian Hayvaz. Dayna is a Registered Dental Hygienist who got into the business during her time as a volunteer firefighter/EMT. Brian is a retired paramedic who now does consulting for an aviation safety company. Brian and Dayna met in the fire department (actually doing CPR on an old, dead, naked guy). The old, dead, naked guy didn’t make it, but the partnership was born. Brian and Dayna have been married since 1994 and have 2 wonderful children.
Our office is fully manned Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm to answer your questions, schedule your classes or assist you in finding the training you need. We offer open enrollment classes around the community as well as the ability to COME TO YOUR LOCATION to provide hands on training. Utilizing off-duty EMS personnel, gives us the unique option to schedule your classes around YOUR schedule; weekends, evenings, swing shift, grave yard or split classes.
Regardless of the type of training you or your employer are in need of, EMTA can handle the job for you. We offer Basic Life Support classes, First Aid/CPR, training on automatic external defibrillators (AED’s), Healthcare Provider CPR, ACLS & PALS. We also offer Safety Seminars in which you can pick the topics your company needs. Those may include hearing conservation, respirator fit testing, bloodborne pathogens, fire extinguisher with live fire or defensive driving. Any thing is possible with EMTA!
Take the opportunity to scroll through our list of amazing instructors. They make the class fun, enjoyable and stress-free. We believe life is stressful enough and learning these necessary skills shouldn’t add more stress. Our learning environment is fun, interactive and hands-on! Yes, HANDS-ON! You have to get out of your chair, move around, interact and LEARN! You will laugh at the jokes and retain the needed info. Then, during the stressful emergency, those life-saving skills that were learned without stress, will come flooding back to you and enable you to save a life!
Please feel free to contact us with questions, or to schedule your next class.
About Dayna Dayton
Hi! I’m Dayna. My husband and I bought EMTA in 1992 as I was taking my dental hygiene state board exam! Yes, obviously I do thrive on stress. I have worked in dentistry for the last 19 years and recently ‘retired’ to spend more time with my kids, Greysen and Meysa, and give EMTA the one-on-one it needs. I still work as a hygienist from time to time. The kids call it my ‘real job’!
I taught the programs at EMTA for years, but realized there are people out there more qualified than I. So I spend my time in the office running the business. My other passion is volunteering to provide free dental care to children. I love to travel, especially to sunny destinations and am trying to learn to love the game of golf!
Two things that I believe set EMTA apart from any other training organization out there are our instructors and our training manual. Our instructors are the greatest. They are all EMS field personnel. We have doctors, nurses, paramedics, EMT’s, firefighters and nurses. They all use the stuff they teach. They aren’t just monkey’s running a slide show! They know this stuff and they have fun with it. They will tell you stories that will not only make you laugh, but will drive home to point they are trying to make. That will stand out during an emergency and will enable you to perform these life-saving skills.
Our training manual has come a long way since 1992. It used to be a mimeographed (yes, I remember those machines), stapled booklet, riddled with typos and crude graphics. Over the years, we’ve worked diligently to update and upgrade the training materials. We stand proudly today with a full color, bound training manual that can rival any competitor. AND, we update that manual every 2 years. Life doesn’t stay stagnant and neither does health news or first aid.
As I hope you can tell, I believe in my company and the quality of training we provide. Take a look through our site and see how EMTA can help you. Thanks for taking the time. - Dayna!
About Kam Buckowski
Kam Buckowski is my nickname. As EMTA’s ‘Operations Supervisor’, I enjoy helping clients, instructors and students with their classes and training – they always keep me smiling!
My professional background includes over twenty-five years of business administrative experience. In 1990, I earned a BA Degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Accounting from Sonoma State University in California. Childhood years were spent in the San Francisco Bay Area, before moving to Bainbridge Island, WA for High School.
At age 19, traveling the world was my passion. I threw a backpack on and headed for ‘The Land Down Under’, where I met a wonderful man, whom I’d eventually marry. He was an open ocean sailor, single-handedly circumnavigating the world on his thirty-foot sailboat from Hawaii and I was a Sailmaker from California. Aussie friends always asked, “Why two ‘Bloody Yanks’ traveled seven thousand miles to meet one another”? Nine years later, after sailing a few oceans together, we married in 1994. Since then, we’ve taken a break from sailing and are now having fun with aviation. No children – just an Australian Shepherd/Collie mix who acts like a kid.
Spare time is spent with family and friends on our overgrown Christmas Tree Farm in Adna, WA. Projects at home, cooking, gardening, beadwork and strolling through antique stores & open markets are my pleasures.
