This is one of the most fun and most useful classes you’ll take. If you look around and see the number of fire extinguishers available to you (work, home, the mall, sporting arena’s) it’s a pretty amazing number. What’s even more amazing is how few people actually know when, why and how to use a fire extinguisher. This class is about 45 minutes of classroom explanation and then an hour or so of live fire! That’s right, you get to grab the extinguisher, pull the pin and fight the fire.

Oleg, was born in Russian republic of former USSR. He comes from a military family and spent his childhood living in different regions of former USSR. He was drafted into army right after finishing high school. He spent two years in Moscow Fire Department, while serving in Soviet Army. After completing his time of service, he was standing at a crossroads of his life. The choices and decisions that he had made, took this young, twenty year old man on a journey to a country and culture that was new, exciting and filled with unknown fears. He has arrived to USA.

Upon arrival to WA state, he experienced hardship, loneliness, struggles with language and an unfortunate accident, which destiny took upon itself and introduced him to a young lady, who later became his partner on this journey of life. He threw himself into learning English language and held several different jobs. But, the deep feelings of fire service that Moscow Fire Department has imprinted on his heart, never left his thoughts. He felt that being fire fighter was in his blood.

With great anticipation and pride he became a Naturalized Citizen of USA. With his citizenship papers in hand, he started filling out applications and testing process with fire departments. He volunteered and was a resident at Snohomish County Fire District #7 for 2 years. Holding his full time job, supporting his family and being a resident at a fire department, he got a flaming confirmation within himself. His true passion and love for fire service. That would be his career and dedication to a country that has adopted him. With hard work and perseverance, Oleg has realized his dream and became a career fire fighter in 2002. He worked for city of DuPont fire department for two years.

In 2004, Oleg has joined Central Pierce Fire and Rescue family. His bilingual skills, passion and dedication to fire and rescue service is a great addition and contribution to the department and community. He is thankful for the opportunities and blessings he has received in his life, in this country and our department.

Outside his job, Oleg enjoys spending time with his family. Playing soccer, skiing, going on a bike ride with his four kids and being a sounders fc fan.

Personal: Married for 16 years, 3 sons and 1 daughter.

I'm Rustie, shown here with my lovely wife Shirleen, we live on the east side of the great state of Washington, GO EAGS, (Eastern Washington University Eagles, 2010 NCAA Division I National Football Champions that is).

We are both addicted to golf, neither one all that good, but really enjoy getting out together or with other friends when one of us is at work. For the past several years we’ve been on a quest to golf in all 50 states (the picture is from Branson Missouri) we currently have 36 down and 14 to go. By the way if you're in the Southeast part of our wonderful country or Alaska and need a class, please ask for me. We use the golf as the main mission but have enjoyed seeing many things around the U.S. while accomplishing this. We have visited many, many of our national parks and historic sites. On our last trip, spring of 2011, we went through the upper mid west or Great Lake States or whatever that part of the country is called and did such things as stop at the world's largest truck stop and the shop the “American Pickers” stock with the stuff they pick, both in Iowa. Oh, yeh, we also went to the Indy 500 and golfed the Brick Yard Crossing the next day, a course that has 4 holes in the infield of the race track. If any one knows where to find the world’s largest ball of twine or anything else we should see, fill us in. The golf/travel list goes on but enough of that.

We have a couple daughters, a couple Grandkids, a bunch of nephews and nieces many of which are having little ones of there own and we live on a lake with a boat so we stay busy in the nice weather we have most of the summer here in the Inland Empire, as we like to call it. The fall is for watching Eagle football for me, no Shirleen on that one. In the winter I spend a lot of time clearing snow and am never sure where any of the fore mentioned people are then. We’ve bought a house in the Phoenix AZ area getting ready to keep the snow clearing thing to a minimum when we retire (a few years away if all goes as planned)

I’m a firefighter/paramedic for the Spokane Fire Department, have been for over 20 years, most of that time I’ve also taught with the E.M.T.A. gang. Before I got on with S.F.D. and E.M.T.A., I worked several different jobs, many of which put me in first-aid/CPR classes as a student. I often thought it was taught by people who had read the stuff out of a book and had no real experience to draw on, it was often presented as rocket science that I felt would be very hard to recall if necessary. I try hard to keep my presentation interesting, using “war stories” only to emphasize points I want students to remember. I try, along with our student manuals; to break the information down in a way that will come to you should you need it, God forbid, before your next class.

Thanks for your time, looking forward to meeting you … Rustie

Hi! I’m Dayna. My husband and I bought EMTA in 1992 as I was taking my dental hygiene state board exam! Yes, obviously I do thrive on stress. I have worked in dentistry for the last 19 years and recently ‘retired’ to spend more time with my kids, Greysen and Meysa, and give EMTA the one-on-one it needs. I still work as a hygienist from time to time. The kids call it my ‘real job’!

I taught the programs at EMTA for years, but realized there are people out there more qualified than I. So I spend my time in the office running the business. My other passion is volunteering to provide free dental care to children. I love to travel, especially to sunny destinations and am trying to learn to love the game of golf!

Two things that I believe set EMTA apart from any other training organization out there are our instructors and our training manual. Our instructors are the greatest. They are all EMS field personnel. We have doctors, nurses, paramedics, EMT’s, firefighters and nurses. They all use the stuff they teach. They aren’t just monkey’s running a slide show! They know this stuff and they have fun with it. They will tell you stories that will not only make you laugh, but will drive home to point they are trying to make. That will stand out during an emergency and will enable you to perform these life-saving skills.

Our training manual has come a long way since 1992. It used to be a mimeographed (yes, I remember those machines), stapled booklet, riddled with typos and crude graphics. Over the years, we’ve worked diligently to update and upgrade the training materials. We stand proudly today with a full color, bound training manual that can rival any competitor. AND, we update that manual every 2 years. Life doesn’t stay stagnant and neither does health news or first aid.

As I hope you can tell, I believe in my company and the quality of training we provide. Take a look through our site and see how EMTA can help you. Thanks for taking the time. - Dayna!

Tally is living proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks when he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management at the ripe old age of 54. Tally’s wife Gail also teaches and they are proud parents of 4 children with 3 grand kids with another expected on the summer of 2011.

“I think the most important part of instructing the various courses, is to make the curriculum applicable for the audience. They must be able to provide the service in a simple, systematic fashion in order to rapidly treat the patient and transfer care to the next level of emergency responder.”

Tally enjoys bicycling, snow skiing and being a Grandpa.

First off, I'm a born and bred New England Yankee, not to be confused with a New York Yankee. I started volunteering with the local fire department in East Greenwich, RI when I was still in high school. My first 'ambulance' was a high-top cadillac - the good old days?

Then, instead of college, I went into the Marine Corps for 5 years earning a 'degree' in applied sociology with a minor in mortars. I finished my tour as a mountaineering instructor in the Sierra Nevada. That's where I got my EMT cerfication in 1978. I left the Corps in 79 and went to work for the county rescue there, going to LA to get my paramedic cert in 1981. Since then I've worked in rural and urban California, Nevada, and in Thurston County since 1988. I've been up the ladder and down again, currently doing what I like best - running calls on the paramedic unit.

In my off time, my wife and I raised four kids, three of them are in college this coming year - ouch. Since they are all about grown and out of the house though, I now do a lot of volunteer work with the Yelm City Planning Commission and with the Nisqually Land Trust - a group dedicated to acquiring and protecting lands along the Nisqually River. I also work with the Lions Club in Yelm. My wife and I both enjoy just being home on our 3 acres; she plays with her horses and I use their 'offerings' to fertilize my garden.

I teach first aid and CPR because I like the feeling of spreading my knowledge and experience out into the hands of folks who will be the first to respond to medical emergencies. It's been great to get feedback from former students saying how they used what they learned from my class. I like to have a good time while learning and always want to hear what the student is thinking. This is their time to ask the questions they've always had about first aid. I'll either have the answer or I'll make something up...

Right now we are enjoying watching the grandchildren play sports and grow up. We’ve been really fortunate with lots of years of great little league. Things are winding down but still some fun left. Our granddaughter plays soccer and we also enjoy that.

We like to gamble, go to dinner at different places and spend time working on our homes (not really-haha). No real hobbies but lots of toys with little spare time to do them all. We still snowmobile a little in the winter but not as much as we’d like!

My professional background includes over twenty-five years of business administrative experience. In 1990, I earned a BA Degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Accounting from Sonoma State University in California. Childhood years were spent in the San Francisco Bay Area, before moving to Bainbridge Island, WA for High School.

At age 19, traveling the world was my passion. I threw a backpack on and headed for ‘The Land Down Under’, where I met a wonderful man, whom I’d eventually marry. He was an open ocean sailor, single-handedly circumnavigating the world on his thirty-foot sailboat from Hawaii and I was a Sailmaker from California. Aussie friends always asked, “Why two ‘Bloody Yanks’ traveled seven thousand miles to meet one another”? Nine years later, after sailing a few oceans together, we married in 1994. Since then, we’ve taken a break from sailing and are now having fun with aviation. No children – just an Australian Shepherd/Collie mix who acts like a kid.

Spare time is spent with family and friends on our overgrown Christmas Tree Farm in Adna, WA. Projects at home, cooking, gardening, beadwork and strolling through antique stores & open markets are my pleasures.

I have been married to Kady, my wife of 9 years, and we have two amazing children, Grace (7) and Zane (5). My wife and I met while going to school at UW in a limnology class. Due to the distraction of meeting the woman of my dreams, I never learned what limnology was, and still don't know.

I enjoy bicycling, hiking, fishing, hunting, construction, farming, and homebrewing.

We have 2 cats, 3 dogs, 4 ducks, 40 chickens, and Grace has a parakeet. We raise the majority of our chickens for meat, the rest have either been reserved for egg production, or were lucky enough to receive names from the kids, therefore are now pets.

I am currently assigned to Engine 9 working for the Tacoma Fire Department and just completed paramedic training, a 9-month program that trains firefighters in advanced life support.

I enjoy teaching because the stuff we teach isn't hard! Being in the fire service since the age of 16, I have seen the panic in people when presented with an emergency when they have no idea what to do. Unless someone can present to you at least once the steps needed to save a life, you won't be able to figure it out when in a panic. And it's a pretty bad feeling in an emergency when you don't have a clue of what to do.
